In an auction participants bid in competition with each other on a certain offer during a predefined time period. After this period the offer goes to the participant with the best offer.

Auctions are used in situations where:

• A party has a special offer they want to go to the highest bidder. For example Governments who sell European Allowances as part of an allocation method.
• The product for sale is not standardized and therefore can’t be sold on a continuous trading platform like the Climex Spot Exchange. Examples are:
  • CDM project owners offering their CERs or VERS online to a large group of buyers;
  • Buyers of CERs, VERs or ERUs posting their interest to buy through a tender.
