Trading in EU Allowances (EUAs) on the Climex platform started in July 2005 and has been a growing market ever since. As of 2008 Climex also offers CERs spot trading.
Spot Trading (as opposed to Forward trading) means that payment and delivery of the traded EUAs and CERs are instant. Climex Spot Trading is a continuous market open during business hours.
Trading on Climex is anonymous: buyers and sellers are not disclosed to each other. APX serves as the central counterparty for Spot Trading on Climex. Thus participants do not trade with each other directly but with the central counterparty as a go-between. The major advantage of this is that participants do not need to do a credit check on each other, as APX guarantees payment and delivery of the trade EUAs and CERs.
